Nuh Dash Mi Weh Fundraiser Dinner

Bags for the People is having a Jamaican Themed dinner Saturday, April 10th from 7 to 10pm at SPACECRAFT in Brooklyn, to help raise funding for our Nuh Dash Mi Weh reusable bag program in Jamaica, West Indies.

NUH DASH MI WEH(Don't Throw Mi Away) is a reusable bag making, plastic bag reducing, and environmental education campaign that iJamaica and Bags for the People are launching in Treasure Beach, St. Elizabeth, Jamiaca, this coming spring 2010.

The Campaign involves five weeks of intensive reusable bag making workshops and environmental education and action at the Sandy Banks Primary School, the Treasure Beach Women's Group, and the Ital Rest guest cottages. The workshops teach the skill of sewing and encourage creative expression all while engaging participants in positive environmental action. The overall goal is to reduce the reliance upon plastic bags while creating a sustainable community driven reusable bag program.

We need your help to make this program a success. All funds donated for Nuh Dash Mi Weh will be utilized to ensure that the people of Treasure Beach receive the proper equipment, materials, and instruction, to enable them to coninue the program until plastic bags cease to be an issue in their community.

The dinner is a three course meal composed of traditional Jamaican cuisine exemplified in the menu below. Each attendant will also receive a reusable Bags for the People bag modeled after the BurdaStyle Charlie Bag.

The dinner is a $75 donation per person. To attend the dinner, please RSVP by Thursday, April 8, to bftp@bagsforthepeople.org with your name and main course choice. You must also pre-donate by Thursday, April 8th, by clicking the donation button below:
